What should I expect from driving lessons?
How many lessons will I need?
Should I drive with my parents?
There are many topics that you need to learn about in order to become a good, safe driver. Many of these are listed below. Over the course of your lessons your instructor will guide you through each of these to give you a insight and understanding of each. The order the topics are covered may vary and many may take several lessons to learn.
The number of lessons it takes to learn these topics is very much down to the individual and how quickly their skills develop. Things that can make the learning process quicker include - asking your instructor questions to help understanding; making your own notes following your lesson; learning the order tasks need to be completed; continuity of lessons; and practice in your own car (if possible). "Learn how to drive in 10 easy stages" is a helpful book that can be used to revise subjects that were covered in your lessons. You will be able to use the Total Drive app to track your progress and see when you are ready for the driving test. This should be discussed with your instructor when you see your skills have reached the 4 & 5 marks on the app.
Private practice is a great idea to hone your skills and gain confidence behind the wheel. It is advisable only to practice what you have been shown in your lessons. Always drive to the highest standards and try to avoid picking up any bad habits. Remember that learning to drive is not just about passing a driving test its about Safe Driving For Life!
